Trackbacks
March 2nd, 2008
I’m really new to this blogging stuff. Today, I discovered Trackbacks. Basically, when you write a post about something you’ve read on another blog or site, you enter in the Trackback URL for the post or article that you have made reference to in YOUR post. Then, your blogging software sends out a PING to the site owner of the post or article that you have made reference to in YOUR post. Your article URL will then be listed on HIS or HERS post as a link.
This is a GREAT traffic builder, especially if the site that you are sending a Trackback to is very popular and gets a lot of traffic.
From what I understand, not all blogging software has Trackback features. Perhaps, there are plugins or workarounds available. I know WordPress offers it. Glad I chose WordPress.
I discovered the value of Trackbacks from an article over at dailymarketingace.com . I’m going to try adding a Trackback URL of the original article to THIS post and see what happens. Fascinating.
Another very good explanation can be found at www.5minutesformom.com .
